'small & big pictures of a building' came about because I stumbled on some old footage that I'd given up on years ago at the same time that I started learning to play piano.
I can't analyse, theorise or think too much when I'm editing/making a film, and with this I just paired a visual device with an audio framework to see if it was interesting. Now that the edit has come together a bit more there seems to be a tension between the sleek, hyper-capitalist, perfectionist symbol of the Shard and the higgledy-piggledy city surrounding it and the amateur piano-playing on the soundtrack, the inclusion of which embraces hesitancy, imperfection, disjunction and dead-ends. But this is probably not what the film is 'about' but perhaps what it does or at least one interpretation of what it does. Really, it's a very simple film and I'm not sure if there needs to be more 'in it' or if it's strong enough on its own.
